Belgrade. When »Zlatni Papagaj« (Golden Parrot) - the first all’italiana coffee bar in the city - opened its doors in 1979, it was the starting signal for Italian coffee culture and lifestyle in the former socialist republic of Yugoslavia. Almost four decades later, the cult café and family business is being brought back to life - in Vienna. We want to take the Belgrade symbol of lightness and the joy of high-quality products into the next generation and think ahead conceptually.
Specialty coffee begins at origin. We source green beans directly from producers and work with selected roasters to create light profiles that reveal each coffee’s character. At Praterstraße 17, inside historic Palais Bellegarde, we serve espresso and filter coffee with breakfast and brunch made from carefully selected ingredients. The interior was designed by BÜRO KLK. Our second café, Goldener Papagei x Paparogi at Argentinierstraße 4–6 near Karlskirche, pairs specialty coffee and brunch with handmade pierogi, including vegetarian and vegan options. Our third café on Stuwerstraße brings a deliberately minimal concept to the Stuwerviertel: specialty coffee, selected beans to take home and Goldener Papagei merchandise: nothing unnecessary, just a focused neighbourhood café.
